One of the key focuses of our coverage today will be the White House’s increasingly urgent push to try and broker a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia, especially following President Donald Trump’s meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at Pope Francis’ funeral yesterday.
But there are some other key storylines to keep in mind. Click on the links below to read more:
• Trump’s approval ratings: Nearly 100 days into his presidency, Trump’s approval rating is lower than any president at this stage in at least seven decades, according to a new CNN poll.
• The impact of DOGE: Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency has been Trump’s battering ram during his first 100 days, slashing the federal government and trying to bend its remnants to Trump’s will. Here’s the impact it’s had so far.
• Visualizing Trump’s layoffs: For weeks, CNN has been covering the administration’s sweeping cuts to the federal workforce and the impact it’s having on those who are losing their jobs. Take a look at just how massive those layoffs have been in graphs.
• Budget fight looms: Republicans return to Congress this week to resume work on a massive policy package advancing Trump’s agenda. The party’s centrists may borrow tactics from the party’s right wing to exert influence.
• Patel posts photo of arrested judge: FBI Director Kash Patel posted a photo on X Friday night of the Wisconsin judge who was arrested for allegedly obstructing immigration agents. The image showed the judge in handcuffs as she was escorted to a law enforcement vehicle. That could be a breach of Justice Department policy.
